EPC Privacy

EPC respects the rights of each individual to have their information administered in accordance with the laws and in a way that respects their privacy. EPC respects the privacy of clients, employees and volunteers.

What information does EPC collect?

EPC only collects information it needs in order to provide quality services to clients and their families. This information includes contact details, personal and medical information. This information is collected from the time a referral is received until a client is discharged. EPC collects personal information in accordance with:

  • Health Records Act 2001 (Commonwealth)
  • Privacy Act 1988 (Commonwealth)
  • Australian Privacy Principles (Commonwealth)

Sharing of information

EPC staff and volunteers do not share or discuss client information except in the course of providing palliative care services and/or as required by law. Client or their representative’s consent is obtained prior to sharing information.

EPC may share its medical record with public hospitals where the clients is a patient. 

De-identified information may be provided to the Department of Health  and other government departments as required or for quality improvement purposes.

Accessing and correcting your personal information

A client may seek access to their information by writing to the CEO, who is also the Privacy Officer. A person may seek correction to information held by EPC about that person. EPC will provide a written response to all requests seeking correction, advising of the outcome of the request.
